I recently had a hair brained idea to create this Hair Salons Baton Rouge blog after trying to find a good beauty salon with a talented staff when I moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I want this site to help anyone like me who just moved here…or had their longtime stylist move away…or if you’re someone whose salon services aren’t your style anymore. Maybe you can relate to my experience I’m sharing with you in this post.
Hair salons and stylists are as different and unique as every person they provide services for - not just salon treatments like perms or barber cuts for the kids – but the therapy of relaxing and trusting a professional that will keep us from pulling out our hair (How do they snip and clip, smile and style and remember your private stresses in life without taking any notes?). When I moved to Baton Rouge, just finding my way ANYWHERE made me frazzled and my hair frizzled.
Change isn’t easy, right? Moving someplace new where you have to find a thousand services is tough. I had my list: home, schools, church, neighborhood, nearest grocery store, telephone, electricity, internet, etc. and etc. But I hadn’t included finding a new, convenient hair salon in Baton Rouge for myself. Personally, it’s a touchy issue placing my beauty and confidence in someone else’s hands.
One of the highlights of my first few weeks week was just finding my way around Baton Rouge. It seemed like there were beauty salons and barber shops on every corner, but I wasn’t about to try to pull out of the mile long stop-and-go traffic jam which I could not seem to avoid everyday after work and worry about being cut off from the only route home I knew.
Waiting, I just sat and day dreamed at the red light. With all the stress, the more I wanted to relax in the hands of ‘my’ new hair stylist, being massaged with the perfect shampoo and conditioner. I looked forward the renewed feeling of being refreshed by someone who knew how to foil, color, style and spoil me for a little while. I could hardly wait to make an appointment with just the right hair salon in Baton Rouge, with just the right stylists who would know just the right products and the look I wanted.
But my reality and my attention were on the brake lights in front of me. I was worried about getting cut off, not getting a hair cut. And I had been warned about not getting caught in the middle of a yellow light with one of those street cameras and getting a ticket in the mail.
Finally it was Friday! I looked in the mirror and sighed. I realized one of the lowlights of all the stress was gray roots…and more dry gray hair than I could remember. The hot bath helped, but a hair color treatment and a fresh look with a color treatment would have been better.
I went on a mission: To find that just right stylist, that just right salon, just right services with just the right beauty salon products. And I needed some place close to home – because any recommendation from my co-workers came with directions that boggled my mind. (Is there a straight street with blocks in this city?).
So I flipped to the yellow pages…and flipped right out. I went to the computer and Googled “hair salons baton rouge” and got 53,000 results. That’s when my hair stood straight up like Marge Simpson! With so many options, and me being new to the city, I knew it was going to take me a while to do my research…and I was right. That’s one reason why I created Hair Salons Baton Rouge …to save you time if you’re looking like I was for the right hair salon.
